Deep Creek Lake is a very popular resort in the summer for couples, families, and friends because it has something for everyone..swim, boat, jet-ski, fish, white-water raft, kayak, golf, bike, arcade, miniature golf, hike, dancing, casual and fine dining, camping or luxury hotels and lakefront B&Bs.  And, even more than all that, on Saturday, June 27, visitors can hear John, Paul, George and Ringo…well almost.

Beatlemania Now is a multi-media live musical with a look-a-like and sound-a-like Fab Four recreating over 30 Beatles classics to a visual montage backdrop of the scenes from the 60s. It is an amazing experience Beatle lovers. The Beatlemania Now production, hosted by GLAF in Deep Creek Lake on Saturday, June 27 to be held at the Wisp Resort, will be a revival of the critically acclaimed Broadway production with original cast members. With tourism high this summer and the growth in support of GLAF from locals and nearby residents – Bealtemania Now ix expected to be a sell-out.

Don’t miss out on this amazing event while on vacation at the spectacular resort (just 2 1/2 hours from D.C./Balt and 2 hours from Pittsburgh).  Click here to print a copy of the GLAF ticket-order page.

When I started with GLAF, Michael Bielski, COO, of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra told me, “There are many ups and downs in the arts business”.  Truer words were never spoken.  Recently we received generous donations from The Audrey and Howard Naylor Trust and the GFWC Civic Club of Oakland, Inc.  Our most sincere appreciation goes out to these donors.  A few days after learning of these gifts we were crushed when we got the news that our re-submission for the PennPAT grant was rejected by a very slim margin. Even though our situation is better than it was in January, we are still under funded.  Our volunteer grant writers are looking for new sources but again we need your help. Willetta Mateer, Fundraising Chairman, has set a goal to raise $15,000 by July 1st.  Please give what you can so we can keep these wonderful programs coming.

We are off to a great start with a great opener!  The David Leonhardt Jazz Group and the Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers gave a free educational program to over 1,000 Garrett County students, and then entertained a near sell out audience at an evening performance.  We have received wonderful comments from school officials, students, and patrons.

Now our summer season is right around the corner for you and your family. This summer the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival runs from June 27-July 18. Learn about our exciting and varied programs and then mark your calendar so you won’t miss a moment of this extraordinary season.  This year our 14 year running Chautauqua series will have a surprise twist.  Also, we are adding a pre-concert lecture (seating will be limited) by Andres Cárdenas prior to the Saturday night Classical Concert of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra.

Accolades to the Southern H.S. Students’ Production of “Les Miserables”

“I must give my accolades to the Southern H.S. students’ production Of  “Les Mis” !!!!!  If you attended, you know what I mean.  If you didn’t, you missed a marvelous experience.  This was an amazing undertaking by everyone involved.  Heath Naylor did an incredible performance as Jean Val Jean and moved me to tears ( I wasn’t alone) with his wonderful “Hear my Prayer”  solo.  Both his and Joanna (Cosette) Guy’s vocals were outstanding and obviously reflected prior voice-training.  (I’m quite sure they both attended GLAF voice clinics in the past, right?)  Beyond that I don’t know what other coaching they’ve had, but they certainly could be “poster-teens” for GLAF’s cultural offerings to the community!”
