Garrett Lakes Arts Festival is pleased to announce its new supporters who believe in the arts, and in the mission of this organization. Please share your appreciation with them whenever you have the opportunity.
Many thanks to the Property Owners’ Association of Deep Creek Lake, Inc. with their generous contribution of $5,000. We are happy to include them as one of our 2009 Season Sponsors. We also are pleased to announce that Albert W. Getty, D.D.S., P.C. is a new corporate sponsor at the $1,000 level.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank The Garrett Community Concert Band. They will be performing gratis this year at the Independence Day Concert. This donation is kind is most appreciated.
And most of all thanks to all of YOU who have made contributions to GLAF. Your support is crucial to the survival of this organization. We can’t do it without you. Just a reminder that ticket sales are brisk for the trip to the Wheeling Symphony Orchestra on October 9. Space is limited so reserve your seat now.

When I started with GLAF, Michael Bielski, COO, of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra told me, “There are many ups and downs in the arts business”. Truer words were never spoken. Recently we received generous donations from The Audrey and Howard Naylor Trust and the GFWC Civic Club of Oakland, Inc. Our most sincere appreciation goes out to these donors. A few days after learning of these gifts we were crushed when we got the news that our re-submission for the PennPAT grant was rejected by a very slim margin. Even though our situation is better than it was in January, we are still under funded. Our volunteer grant writers are looking for new sources but again we need your help. Willetta Mateer, Fundraising Chairman, has set a goal to raise $15,000 by July 1st. Please give what you can so we can keep these wonderful programs coming.

In our January issue of the “Spotlight” newsletter, I made a plea to the community to contribute $20,000 to offset part of the budget shortfall that was mentioned in that newsletter. Some of you have increased your donations, one donor lifted a restriction on the use of his donation, and new contributors have joined us. I’m happy to announce, we’ve met our $20,000 goal, and I’m very grateful to those of you that made it happen. We’re not out of the woods yet, but I think we are getting close to the edge of the forest. As I’ve told our board of directors, we still have much work to do this year in all areas of the business. We have to increase ticket sales, hold successful fundraisers, and make solicitations for donations. Thanks to those of you who responded to our plea, we’ve crossed the first hurdle.
I am pleased to report that the Art Raffle Fundraiser was a great success. Thanks to the generous contribution of a beautiful watercolor by Robert Yonke we were able to raise $1,910 for GLAF. The painting was won by Robert Starliper of Hagerstown. Thanks to all the people who contributed their time and money to this project.
